Short-Term Forecasting Workshop

If your responsibilities include maintaining existing models and/or developing short-term load forecasts every day, this workshop is for you. Seize the opportunity to level-up your understanding of the tools and techniques used by many of the largest utilities, independent system operators (ISOs) and retailers to forecast their loads from 5 minutes to 7 days ahead. In this workshop, we will cut through the noise and focus on the signal. You will learn:

  • Regression and Neural Network modeling frameworks
  • Statistical analysis and interpretation
  • Variable specification that addresses both weather and calendar
  • Daily and hourly modeling approaches
  • Data visualization and interpretation
  • Approaches for addressing behind-the-meter (BTM) solar generation

This workshop will focus on these topics in the context of MetrixND, Itron’s statistical modeling application, which is widely used across the industry as the modeling engine behind automated systems that generate real-time and day-ahead forecasts. Using MetrixND’s powerful functionality, you will get hands-on experience:

  • Building variables that make sense
  • Constructing graphs and scatter plots to help you understand your data
  • Organizing and specifying models

If you are starting from scratch, or if you have inherited models that you don’t fully understand, or if you have a good understanding of the short-term modeling problem and you simply want to learn more, this workshop will provide you with the tools. Join us as we reveal much that is hidden.
