Itron customer, CenterPoint Energy, has been chosen as the winner of two awards: the International Smart Grid Action Network’s (ISGAN) 2016 Award of Excellence and the Global Smart Grid Federation’s (GSGF) Best Smart Grid Project for 2016.

ISGAN partnered with GSGF to present the utility with these awards of excellence during a special ceremony at the Seventh Clean Energy Ministerial in San Francisco. This year’s theme was “Smart Grids for Reliable Electricity Service.” Project nominations were received from eight different countries around the world, according to ISGAN. The jury selected winning projects based on potential impact, economic rationale, potential for replication and innovation.

CenterPoint Energy has reduced outages by more than 134 million minutes, enabled restoration of more than 1.5 million outage cases without a customer phone call, and saved tens of millions of dollars in eliminated fees for more than 2.3 million metered customers in Southeast Texas through its smart grid, according to CenterPoint Energy’s press release.
