Location: Budapest

Q: What was your first job ever?
A: My first job was during high school, working as a cashier in the duty-free shop at Budapest International Airport. While the early-morning and late-night shifts were challenging, I loved the dynamic environment and interacting with customers from all over the world.

My first IT role was as a technology analyst intern at a large international financial corporation. This experience gave me real-world perspective on how IT operates in a corporate setting, helping me apply academic theory to practical work.

Q: What was your first job at Itron?
A: I joined Itron as a cloud infrastructure engineer intern in April 2023 and transitioned to a full-time role in 2024. My team focuses on automating cloud infrastructure for developer teams within the Itron DevOps environment, and we’ve recently been moving toward platform engineering. I enjoy that our work is never the same; every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn.

Q: What is your alma mater? If applicable.
A: I have a bachelor of science degree in computer science with a specialization in cloud services and IT security, which sparked my interest in cybersecurity. Last summer, I earned my master’s degree in Cybersecurity Engineering. I also hold a Certified Ethical Hacker certification and am devoted to continuing to build my skills in this field.

Q: What is your current role at Itron?
A: I am a cloud infrastructure engineer on the IDE Infrastructure Team. My work involves automating cloud infrastructure, managing networking appliances and supporting our developer teams. Every day is different, which keeps the role exciting and engaging.

Q: What gets you excited each day to show up to work?
A: Every day at Itron is a chance to learn something new and make meaningful progress. I enjoy tackling challenges and continually expanding my technical skills. I’m motivated knowing that my work contributes to a larger purpose. Itron’s focus on sustainability and positive impact aligns with my own values, and it’s important to me that the work I do serves a good cause.

Q: What’s your proudest professional accomplishment at Itron?
A: One of my proudest accomplishments has been growing into an independent contributor. As I became more familiar with our workflows and codebase, I learned to manage my tasks autonomously while still supporting my teammates whenever I can. Transitioning from an intern to a full-time employee was a significant achievement for me and reflects the skills and confidence I’ve gained during my time here.

Q: How would you describe the culture at Itron’s Budapest site to someone considering a career at that location?
A: Itron’s Budapest site has a welcoming and inclusive culture. The people are approachable, collaborative and supportive, representing a wide range of generations. I feel seen and supported, which is especially important to me as someone who is neurodivergent. I can openly discuss challenges with my manager, who is always understanding and helpful. Mistakes are viewed as opportunities to learn rather than something to fear, which encourages continuous growth. There’s a strong mindset of collaboration—everyone is willing to help and share knowledge.

Q: What new professional skills have you built since joining Itron?
A: Since joining Itron, I’ve developed a wide range of technical and professional skills. I gained an infrastructure- and cloud-focused mindset, learned Azure in depth and earned my AZ-104 and AZ-400 certifications. I’ve applied DevOps practices in real-world settings, gained hands-on experience with auditing processes and strengthened my communication skills and confidence in professional English interactions.

Q: How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
A: I love learning, whether it’s IT skills, computer networking or cybersecurity topics. I also enjoy languages—Italian, beginner French, maintaining my basic Japanese skills and currently learning basic Thai for my upcoming trip. Traveling is my biggest passion, and my next adventure is Thailand, which I’m really excited about!

Q: If you could swap jobs with anyone at Itron for a day, who would it be and why?
A: I’d be interested in experiencing a role that’s very different from mine — something practical and hands-on, not in front of a computer all day, just to gain a new perspective on how Itron operates.

Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting their career at Itron?

A: Be open and ask questions. Collaboration is key, so communicate with your teammates and don’t hesitate to seek help when needed. Embrace opportunities to learn and remember that mistakes are part of the process.
