Meet Our People

My involvement with Itron is a unique one – I didn’t become an Itron employee through the typical hiring process. My start in the QA/Test role stemmed from the Silver Spring acquisition, headquartered in San Jose, California. I started with a weekend project helping a friend of mine, who was a contractor at the time, upgrade gas units after they’d come off the manufacturing line due to an issue found with the firmware.

That simple task allowed me the opportunity to meet individuals who saw my potential and motivation to learn, so I was brought in as a contractor. I was asked to work on more projects for different departments, which taught me about RF mesh, networking and hardware design concepts. A few years later, I transitioned to a full-time employee which allowed me to become more involved in designing use cases to test electric meter features.

When Itron came into the picture, I had been working for Silver Spring for several years where I gained valuable knowledge I apply to this day. It gave me the opportunity to contribute greatly to some of the new products Itron has introduced to the market.

I’ve worked for other technology companies over the years, but Itron has given me the most freedom to learn new technologies, which has helped me do my job more efficiently and bring value to my team. For me, being a test engineer at Itron means being able to look outside the box for a solution to a situation. This could include brainstorming how to break a system or figuring out how to reproduce a customer issue. The main goal for a test engineer is to ensure that a particular feature or product is up to quality standard while pushing the limits to verify that our products can withstand anything (within reason) thrown at them.
